Panax ginseng is a biennial plant. It has its roots at approximately 30 cm. It has roots that separated into lobes, which has bloated and round like a cylinder and pale yellow. Its stem has a height of 90 cm. Characteristics of leaves will be compound leaf. Each leaf is divided into lobes and green. For the flowers, it will flower from the bouquet in the top. The flower color is white. Its fruits are red when ripe.

The active ingredients found in the panax ginseng is saponin, divided into 3 groups are ginsenoside, panaxoside and chikusetsusaponin, but, the major components of this panax is ginsenoside. This is approximately 1 -2 % by weight, depending on the type of this herb, planting and the production process. It was found that ginseng is sold in some markets not ginsenoside or very little.
